Position overview

Do you have an eye for design and is up to date on commercial construction and interior fit out trends? 

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Manager, Commercial Services (Design and Construction). Reporting to the Director, Passenger Commercial, the successful candidate will lead the on-going program and performance management in relation with the implementation of commercial capital programs at the Airport, including oversight of YVR’s program development and improvement, as well as tenants’ capital programs (from concept idea, criteria/design, FAP (permitting), execution to delivery). Prior to COVID-19, YVR’s commercial program generated around $400M in terms of sales and covered more than 140 concessions in the terminal. Despite this challenging landscape, YVR is looking to strengthen its commercial foundation and plans to reinvigorate and enhance its commercial program by providing an increased range of products, services and introducing new brands and concepts. 

The Manager, Commercial Services (Design and Construction) is a key part of the Passenger Commercial team and will analyze and evaluate different facility scenarios and build-out designs and will use their construction engineering, planning and project management skills to deliver an improved commercial experience and enhanced revenue. This role has to problem solve based on the realities of each specific project and location, advise and provide guidance to the tenant and the architecture firms, and manage and/or facilitate the work in collaboration with YVR stakeholders like Engineering, Planning, Operations, amongst other groups, to ensure that venues open on time, on budget and with a high level of program enhancement and experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning, managing and delivering commercial projects through the project lifecycle, collaborating with working groups, leading design and construction meetings, and overseeing site development and construction practices
  • Working closely with business partners to understand their vision and provide support in bringing it to life, including design, coordination related to base building services, maintenance, access, support through airport permitting process (FAP), construction support and close out
  • Working closely with Engineering Services, Maintenance and Asset Management groups, and other stakeholders, in the preparation of funding applications and requirements related to base-building scope, as well as tenants’ capital improvement and development projects
  • Defining and developing scope, deliverables, work plan, budget and timing for new commercial initiatives in line with department outcomes and objectives  
  • Overseeing site evaluations and construction feasibility analysis; securing consultants for architectural, MEP surveys; reviewing and analysing reports and making recommendations regarding proposed development projects
  • Leading the validation and of all concepts, innovations, prototypes, template sets, guidelines impacting Base-Building scope, as well as Tenant Design Criteria

Key qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum three years’ management experience, including technical leadership skills for problem solving and conflict resolution; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Five years’ recent, related experience in a project management role, preferably in a capital project environment, while being responsible through the project lifecycle from concept to delivery
  • Excellent program and project management skills including cost analysis and product design methods
  • Excellent analytical skills including the ability to troubleshoot, process, change and improve design and equipment 
  • Ability to understand a business problem and derive the necessary information to make a recommendation or decision
  • Proven experience leading and motivating a highly skilled team of professionals with the ability to nurture a work environment that is proactive, flexible and responsive to change as well as solid relationship building skills with all levels of an organization, both internally and externally

Salary Range : $117,040 to $168,245 per annum, based on a 37.5 hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity. Performance-Based Incentive: Eligible for an annual bonus target at 15% of your annual salary.
