Position Overview
Are you a strategic leader passionate about fostering a culture of continuous learning and development?
We are seeking a Director, Learning & Development to lead and oversee all aspects of learning and development initiatives within YVR. This includes developing and implementing corporate learning strategies aligned with YVR’s goals, designing, and delivering employee development programs, fostering leadership development, and managing the employee onboarding program (YVR Arrivals). The purpose of this role is to create a culture of continuous learning and growth, ensuring that employees have the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to contribute effectively to YVR’s success.
Key responsibilities include:
- Team Leadership and Development - Lead and inspire a team of learning and development professionals. Allocate responsibilities and set clear performance expectations. Support the team in managing complex issues. Foster an inclusive and diverse team environment that values teamwork and professional growth.
- Strategic Leadership and Direction - Lead the alignment of learning and development initiatives with YVR’s goals. Develop and implement learning frameworks that foster continuous improvement. Conduct needs assessments and gap analysis to identify learning priorities. Evaluate program effectiveness and make data-driven adjustments. Introduce diverse learning delivery approaches to meet business needs and deliver ROI.
- Talent Development and Performance Enhancement - Design and execute employee development programs to enhance skills across all levels. Lead leadership development initiatives through coaching and mentoring. Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver impactful learning experiences that drive engagement and performance. Monitor employee progress and provide strategic guidance.
- Program Management and Implementation Excellence - Oversee the design and execution of learning programs aligned with organizational priorities. Manage the employee onboarding program (YVR Arrivals) to ensure a positive experience for new hires. Innovate learning delivery methods and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration - Build strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders and external vendors. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices. Represent the learning function in forums and conferences. Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing within the team and across the organization.
Key qualifications include:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in learning and development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Bachelor’s degree in adult learning, human resources, business administration, or a related field.
- Proven track record in strategic leadership and the implementation of corporate learning and development initiatives.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies.
This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $135,840 to $195,270 per annum. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
Performance-Based Incentive: Eligible for an annual bonus target at 20% of your annual salary.
