Operations Specialist (Terminal Readiness)

Readiness and Delivery is an integral part of the organization that provides operational perspective and integrated coordination during all stages of project delivery, ensuring operational business continuity of the airport by managing impacts and mitigating risks associated with planned disruptions. To do this, we collaborate with many operational program teams, external partners, and subject matter experts, bringing the right people together to make the right decisions at the right time to ensure operational project delivery.

Position overview

Reporting to the Manager, Terminal Operations (Readiness and Delivery) the Operations Specialist (Terminal Readiness) will ensure existing, and newly implemented processes and procedures in the operational area are performing as designed and deliver projects and operational improvements with a short-, medium-, and long-term outlook.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide guidance on key operational decisions to enable the seamless, optimized, and cost-efficient flow of passengers, bags and planes through the airport.
  • Develop new programs to enable safe and efficient operations that benefit airport capacity with adherence to regulations and industry best practices. Complete justification and background analysis to initiate projects or initiatives.
  • Perform data analysis to draw insights on how to improve operational and system performance. Use data models and tools to consider multiple scenarios.
  • Work within several data models (Passenger Demand, Flights, Baggage, Pre-Board Screening, etc.) to analyze and create dashboards and other data visualizations using available tools and data algorithms. Engage with the Business intelligence team to continue improving data models.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including Airlines, ground handlers and government agencies.
  • Ensure all operational procedures are compliant with YVR, NavCanada, Transport Canada and IATA standards

Key qualifications include:

  • 5 years of recent, related experience in an evolving, regulated environment or a major international airport, supplemented by a post-secondary degree in Business, Aviation Management, Airport Operations, Process Engineering, Logistics, Project Management, Technology, or other related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience in process/procedure analysis and design.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, operational research and/or application of statistical techniques and simulation modelling in an operational environment
  • Proven ability to quickly interpret and present complex data from interdependent sources
  • Excellent communication, networking, interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills, including experience presenting to large audiences

This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $80,932 to $105,773 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
