Manager, Airport Terminal Projects

Position overview

We have a full-time permanent opportunity for a Manager, Airport Terminal Projects in our Engineering Projects department. Reporting to the Director, Engineering Projects, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing, planning, developing and implementing a portfolio of airport terminal renewal, renovation and expansion projects. The successful candidate will interact with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization along with external partners, contractors and community members in the course of managing the assigned portfolio of programs and individual projects.

This position plays a key role in essential elements of the YVR Strategic Plan, contributing to asset management and maintaining a state of good repair, environmental sustainability through our Roadmap to Net Zero by 2030, and enhancing operational and financial capacity and performance.

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Providing leadership and direction to a team of project managers/engineers, including hiring, coaching, motivating and monitoring work efforts and performance
  • Applying sound business principles and superior project/program management skills to successfully deliver a rolling investment program
  • Overseeing and providing expertise in the implementation of programs and projects managed within the team, from initial planning to handover
  • Maintaining currency in project management and construction best practices, aviation industry developments and airport-specific requirements
  • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of project management tools and processes used by the team

Key qualifications include:

  • 10 years of progressive experience managing building projects, supplemented by a university degree in engineering. 
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of British Columbia or equivalent in another province, optionally supplemented with Project Management Professional certification, and/or another relevant professional designation
  • Demonstrated management/supervisory experience with a leadership style that engages and inspires a team of professionals through coaching and development and the promotion of collaboration and teamwork
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in the English language with respect to report writing and giving oral presentations
  • High energy, well organized, detail oriented and adaptable to changing priorities

This role is primarily on site, Monday to Friday, with occasional requirements for night and weekend work. It is a strong fit for someone who values in-person collaboration and prefers to work from the office 4+ days per week.

Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. Candidates who do not speak French are still strongly encouraged to apply. 

This position is open to Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $122,960 to $184,440 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
