Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Coordinator

The Business Resilience team ensures that YVR is prepared for emergencies and disruptions by managing emergency plans, business continuity programs, and life safety assets to support operational readiness.

Position Overview

We are seeking a permanent, full-time Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Coordinator to join our Business Resilience team under the Operational Excellence and Improvement Department. Reporting to the Manager, Business Resilience, this role is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of emergency management and business continuity plans.

The successful candidate will lead risk assessments to prioritize planning efforts, create and manage project timelines, and ensure accurate documentation in both digital and physical formats. Additionally, the role oversees the life safety asset program, including securing funding for new or replacement assets and ensuring all equipment is properly inspected and maintained.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Emergency Management 
    • Support and implement YVR’s Emergency Management Program, including the development and continuous improvement of emergency response materials such as plans, procedures, checklists, and guides.
    • Lead stakeholder engagement and ensure timely, clear communication of emergency-related information and response protocols.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance and operational readiness by applying aviation and emergency management best practices, and supporting workshops, training, and exercises.
    • Represent the Airport Authority in regional emergency management forums and support incident response through roles in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) or on-scene coordination. Provide business continuity expertise during disruptions, and contribute to debriefs, After Action Reports (AARs), and exercise logistics.
  2. Business Continuity
    • Lead the development and maintenance of a fit-for-purpose corporate business continuity program, including documentation, training, and exercises to ensure organizational preparedness.
    • Collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders to build program support and ensure consistent integration of business continuity practices.
  3. Information Management
    • Manage and enhance emergency and business continuity information systems, including the Operations Centre SharePoint site and interdepartmental platforms, to ensure personnel have timely access to organized content in both digital and physical formats.
    • Coordinate documentation and knowledge-sharing processes, including tracking lessons learned and best practices from exercises and incidents, to support continuous improvement and operational readiness.

Key qualifications include:

  • Minimum 3 years of recent, related experience in airport operations or emergency management, supplemented by a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Airport Operations, Communications, or a related field, and completion of ICS 100 & 200; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Strong understanding of emergency management and business continuity standards, industry regulations, and best practices
  • Proficient in MS Office and SharePoint, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to evaluate complex information, streamline processes, and produce clear documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with a proactive approach to meeting deadlines and supporting team objectives.

Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. Candidates who do not speak French are still strongly encouraged to apply.

Salary Range : $75,766 to $99,027 per annum, based on a 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
