Safety Advisor

The Safety Advisor is part of a team that is focused on enabling business at YVR to ensure intended outcomes are successfully and safely achieved. As proactive health and safety professionals, we use our expertise to apply the safety lens across our airport community ensuring YVR remains one of the safest airports in the world. This position will be primarily focused on supporting our Maintenance organization at YVR, providing technical support to employees and contractors tasked with ensuring the safe and effective operation of our infrastructure. This role will involve significant time working in the field with crews to support and verify safety programs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Focusing on proactive and leading-edge health and safety initiatives through the development and implementation of programs to support our workforce and our broader operations across YVR.
- Engaging collaboratively and meaningfully with internal and external stakeholders.
- Facilitating technical safety training as required for topics such as supervisor training, FLHA and inspection tool use, new hire orientations, manual handling confined spaces, fall protection and other regulatory content.
- Managing multiple priorities diligently, such as conducting field audits, supporting worker health and safety, liaising with contractors or tenants, collaborating with operations for alignment, etc.
- Monitoring key performance of assigned business areas, managing trends, escalating as appropriate, and ensuring stakeholders are suitably informed of organizational performance related to health and safety.
- Developing and sustaining constructive working relationships at all levels while overseeing assigned corporate programs and business areas such as confined space, traffic management, electrical safety, permitting, contractor safety and others.
- Supporting assigned business partners in defining safety objectives, through incident investigations, training delivery, toolbox participation, providing constructive feedback, and more aligned with our Integrated Safety Strategy for the airport.
Key qualifications include:
- Minimum five years of recent, related progressive experience, supplemented by a post-secondary degree in health and safety or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Preference given to Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designations.
- Demonstrated experience in executing and operating successful health and safety programs and management systems in an industrial safety or maintenance environment.
- Demonstrated experience with broad based occupational health and safety support in the identification, assessment and control of health and safety risks.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and provincial regulations governing occupational health and safety.
- A team player, capable of working both collaboratively and independently, while ensuring strong communication skills, sound judgment and confident leadership.
Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. Salary Range : $90,960 to $136,440 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity. Performance-Based Incentive: Eligible for an annual bonus target at 7.5% of your annual salary.
