Manager, Real Estate Development

Position overview 

Reporting to the Director, Real Estate Development, the Manager, Real Estate Development is responsible for executing on the Vancouver Airport Authority’s (VAA) real estate portfolio growth, focusing on 1,200 acres of available commercial land.  This role will manage the development and construction of both VAA and tenant constructed new facilities such as specialized cargo buildings, warehouses, light industrial, offices and other airport-specific developments.  

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Manage and execute real estate development plans for a portfolio of projects in accordance with varying project size, scope and complexity
  • Plan and oversee procurement of consultants to perform due diligence on all brown and green fields
  • Oversee procurement and contract negotiations for all professionals, consultants, and contractors necessary to execute on the development plans.
  • Manage, plan, co-ordinate, and direct the Project Management department and
  • Act as subject matter expert on construction project execution

Key qualifications include:

  • 5 + years of relevant experience in +$50M real estate developments, construction project management, procurement, design, and construction methodologies, along with a bachelor’s degree in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 years of supervisory or people management experience.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, construction safety guidelines, contract law and procurement
  • Holistic project management skills with experience on complex multi-year, multi-disciplinary construction projects
  • Financial acumen relating to the development of proformas and cost controls
  • Possession of P. Eng, MBA, LEED certification and/or PMP certification is an asset


This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $100,640 to $144,670 per annum, based on 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Performance-Based Incentive: Eligible for an annual bonus target at 15% of your annual salary.
